Les titres
China Shipping met en place actuellement une nouvelle liaison baptisée AMAX. Selon Yantian International Container Terminals (YICT), ce service proposera des touchées dans 16 ports et 12 pays : Ningbo, Shanghaï, Chiwan, Hong Kong, Yantian, Port-Kelang, Port-Saïd, Haïfa, Naples, Gênes, Barcelone, Valence, Halifax, New York et Savannah. Le premier départ est intervenu de Yantian le 25 juillet dernier. YICT souligne en outre que la ligne AMAX constitue le 70ème service hebdomadaire à faire usage de ses installations.

La ministre aux Affaires européennes Catherine Colonna a confirmé l’engagement du gouvernement à apporter une aide d’un million d’euros à la ligne de « merroutage” transportant des semi-remorques entre Toulon-La Seyne et Rome-Civitavecchia, la seule du genre en France, opérée par Louis-Dreyfus Lines est associé à l’armateur italien Grimaldi. Elle « permet de désengorger les routes, en particulier entre la France et l’Italie, et représente pour les compagnies de transport routier un gain en termes de temps et de coûts » a déclaré Mme Colonna. Ouverte depuis le 27 janvier dernier, cette autoroute de la mer sera rentabilisée en trois ans, avec un seuil de rentabilité fixé à 20.000 camions par an, soit 65 remorques par passage, sur un total possible de 150 camions. “La progression est constante d’un mois sur l’autre”, a indiqué le directeur général de Louis Dreyfus, espérant qu’elle ne soit pas due à la fermeture du Tunnel du Fréjus. En février, 185 semi-remorques avaient embarqué sur le bateau et 1.140 en juillet, à raison de trois rotations par semaine. Le soutien de grosses PME et l’arrivée de gros transporteurs, dont Dentressangle, est l’autre motif de satisfaction de GLD. Mme Colonna a par ailleurs rappelé que trois millions d’euros de fonds européens, sur 700 attribués à la région PACA, iront au centre nautique de La Seyne. Ils pourraient servir à améliorer le quai pour éviter que le bateau ne soit dérouté sur Toulon-centre en cas de fort mistral, et simplifier ainsi la tâche des transporteurs routiers.

NYK Lines (Nippon Yusen Kaisha), une compagnie maritime, a lancé un nouveau service de transport de véhicules ro-ro entre l’Afrique du Sud et l’Europe du Nord. « MS Columbia Leader », le navire d’une capacité de 3800 véhicules a effectué une escale inaugurale à Durban le 25 juillet. Les ports d’escale réguliers inclueraient Durban, Zeebrugge et Vigo, alors que les ports du Maroc et d’Algérie pourraient être desservis à la demande, a indiqué NYK.

DFDS (« Det Forenede Dampskibs- Selskab" (The United Steamship Company)), une compagnie maritime danoise, s’est associé à la compagnie maritime russe Sovcomflot pour opérer un service de fret ro-ro entre Kiel en Allemagne et St Petersburg. Sovcomflot qui a opéré un service entre les deux villes depuis 2002 et DFDS vont mettre en service chacun un navire et offrir ensemble deux départs hebdomadaires dans les deux directions. La capacité sur cette ligne doublerait par l’utilisation de navires plus gros.

EWS (English Welsch & Scottish Railway) a introduit un nouveau service de fret transmanche. L’opérateur de fret ferroviaire louera des locomotives, des chauffeurs et autres personnels à d’autres opérateurs dans les deux directions à travers le tunnel sous la Manche entre Folkestone et Calais à des heures où il y aura de la capacité disponible. EWS s’occupera aussi d’organiser la suite du transport ferroviaire, si nécessaire. La société a indiqué qu’augmenter la gamme des services aux opérateurs et à la clientèle aiderait le marché du fret ferroviaire entre le Royaume Uni et le continent Européen.

La Turquie a signé vendredi avec l’Union Européenne un protocole sur l’extension de l’accord d’union douanière aux dix nouveaux pays de l’UE, dont la République de Chypre, une disposition cruciale pour l’ouverture des négociations d’adhésion avec Ankara. Les Européens réclamaient une telle signature d’Ankara pour ouvrir les négociations d’adhésion, prévues le 3 octobre. Mais la Turquie y répugnait jusqu’ici car elle ne reconnaît pas la République de Chypre, qui est entrée dans l’UE le 1er mai 2004. Ankara reconnaît, en revanche, la République turque de Chypre Nord (RTCN), occupée par ses troupes depuis 1974.

Des millions de pull-overs sont bloqués dans des ports européens du fait que le quota 2005 pour la catégorie 5 des importations chinoises a été atteint. L’arrêt des imports est intervenu le 26 juillet. La commission européenne envisage un assouplissement temporaire du règlement pour laisser entrer les vêtements dans la communauté européenne.

China Shipping will soon be starting up a new service called Amax. According to Yantian International Container Terminals (YICT), this service will offer callings at 16 ports and twelve countries : Ningbo, Shanghaï, Chiwan, Hong Kong, Yantian, Port-Kelang, Port-Saïd, Haïfa, Napoli, Genoa, Barcelona, Valencia, Halifax, New York and Savannah. The first shipment left the port of Yantian on July 25 2005. Yantian mentions that Amax is the 70th weekly service using its infrastructures.

Catherine Colonna, the French minister of European affairs confirmed the French government's commitment of aid worth one million Euros to the "short sea transport" line which carries semi trailers between Toulon-La Seyne and Roma. This one of a kind service in France is operated by Louis Dreyfus Lines in partnership with shipowner Grimaldi. It "will unblock roads in particular between France and Italy and represents for road transporters less time and cost ", stated Mrs Colonna. Opened January 27, this sea motorway will become profitable after 3 years. Breakeven point has been fixed at 20 000 trucks per year approximately 65 trailers per passage with a possible total of 150 trucks. "Progress is constant from one month to the next", stated the CEO of Louis Dreyfus Line who hopes it is not due to the closure of the Fréjus tunnel. In February, 185 lorries had embarked and in July, 1140 at a rotation of three per week. Supported by large SMEs and more recently by big road transporters such as Dentressangle, GLD (Group Louis Dreyfus) is equally satisfied. Mrs Colonna also recalled that three million Euros from the European funds out of the 700 millions which are granted to the PACA region will go to the nautical centre of La Seyne. The money may be used to improve quay infrastructures to prevent rerouting of ships to Toulon-centre in the case of strong winds, thus simplifying road transporters work.

NYK Lines (Nippon Yusen Kaisha), a shipping company has started a new ro-ro vehicle transportation service between South Africa and Northern Europe. “MS Columbia Leader”, the 3800 vehicle dedicated vessel for the trade, made its inaugural call in Durban on 25 July. Regular ports of call would include Durban Zeebrugge and Vigo, while ports in Morocco and Algeria would be served according to demand, NYK said.

DFDS (« Det Forenede Dampskibs- Selskab" (The United Steamship Company)) a shipping company in Denmark has joined up with Russian shipping company Sovcomflot to operate a ro-ro freight service between Kiel in Germany and St Petersburg. Sovcomflot, which has operated a service between the two cities since 2002, and DFDS will each deploy one vessel and together offer two weekly departures in either direction. Capacity on the route would be doubled by the deployment of larger ships.

EWS (English Welsch & Scottish Railway) has introduced a new service for cross-channel freight. The rail freight operator will hire out locomotives, drivers and other staff for other operators in either direction through the Channel Tunnel between Folkestone and Calais at times when it had capacity available. EWS would also help arrange onward train paths thereafter if necessary. It said increasing the range of services to operators and customers would help the international rail freight market grow between the UK and mainland Europe.

On Friday, Turkey signed a protocol with the European Union to extend the customs union agreement to ten new European Union countries , including the Republic of Cyprus. It is a crucial step in opening negotiations with Ankara. Europeans want Ankara's signature to open membership negotiations for the 3rd of October. However Turkey doesn't wish so far to acknowledge the Cyprus Republic, which joined the EU on May 1 2004. Ankara does however acknowledge the Turkish Republic of North Cyprus occupied since 1974 by its troops.

Millions of pullovers are stuck at European ports because the 2005 quota for category five imports from China has already been filled. The stop on imports was imposed on 26 July. The European Commission is now considering whether to let the garments in under a temporary relaxation of the rules.
